Default Best winch for Sportsman 500

Looking to hear opinions on some of these winches, other than Warn.

Cant afford $300 for a Warn winch but want something that will lower and raise a plow and bucket and pull me out of the mud.

So what are your opinions of some of the less expensive winches?

Whats the best bang for the buck?

Thanks.

I am pretty much in the same situation as you are, want something good and not as expensive as a warn. I am going to order the 3,000lb Gorilla winch for my 07 Sportsman 450. I think they are two hundred and some change.

there is bunch of winches on ebay, I was looking at the xtreme winches, they were approx. 150.00 for a 3000lb winch and kit, which has everything fairlead, handle bar control, mounting plate, looks to me to be a good deal, it even had a warranty

Hey Guys, a cheap winch and extensive warranty is NFG if you are out in the boonies and it craps out.

Check out the viper. Stay away from the polaris branded chinese ones. Personaly would not cut corners on a winch when you need it you want it to work. Thinking that if one can kick 5-6k for a decent machine the 3-450 for a good winch is just good insurance.

DO NOT buy a cheap winch. That warranty won't help you when the Quad is stuck & the winch burns up. I have seen a warn pick an SP 700 off the ground without breathing hard. Everybody compares themselves to Warn for a reason. For an extra $200, it a no brainer in my book.

We are finally having a real winter here this year. I broke my Warn CE25 several weeks ago. I had a $50 Costco unit sittting around, so I mounted it up & it's working for a living now. It is actually a little quieter than the Warn, but I am wondering how long it will last. So far so good, & its already paid for itself. I have over a 1/2 mile of driveway that stair steps in, plus helping the neighbors. When its bad, my Vinson with a 60" Moose will only plow down hill. Yes, it gets used a lot. I've been pricing things out and don't know which way to go: fix the Warn $150 web, new Warn $400+ web $500+ dealer, MileMarker 2500 $142 web $300 dealer, Costco $50, Ramsy, others, ???. From what I can tell they are all Chinese other than the Warn, and I'm not even real sure about that. If you look at the pictures, many of them are exactly the same. Has Consumer Reports or an ATV Mag actually done any real side by side comparisions? I need a solution cause I have no more spares and winter is only half over. If you use them a lot, they all brake or wear out. I am currently running my own test comparision $500 vs $50. Its too soon to tell, but I will let you know. Anybody else testing anything out there, surely I'm not the only one?

over 1/2 mile driveway? HOLY CRAP DUDE you need a plow on your truck not your quad! thats cool you do that much with your quad. I have a 300ft driveway and my wife said no to a quad plow and made me get a plow for my truck - it didnt bother me though

GO WARN or walk to get a come-along...the choice is simple..you can't afford 300.00 for a warn, pack a lunch ,stay home for a few friday nighst..anything GOOD is worth saving for..i have ran the same warn ce 25 for almost 4 years of plowing and pulling my stuck/drunk a$$ out..the choice was simple for me..
