A 2 stroke does not have valves in the head like a 4 stroke. A 4 stroke takes 4 revolutions of the crankshaft to complete all the functions necessary to complete combustion. A 2 stroke can complete combustion in 2 revolutions of the crankshaft. That is how you hear 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Usually have to add oil to the fuel for a 2 stroke motor, but not a 4 stroke.

This is incorrect... A four storke requires two crankshaft revolutions, not four like stated, and a two stroke only needs one revolution, not two.
One complete revolution of the crankshaft = two strokes : piston goes up (1 stroke), piston goes down(2nd stroke).

Kegbasher is right about the 1 revolution of the crankshaft makes a 2 stroke run, where as it takes 2 revolutions on a 4 stroke. Thats what I get for not reading what I wrote before hitting reply.
