exaust valve
#1
riding my bike yesterday heard a big bang and she started missing and for some reason i looked at the dual exaust and sticking out of the right muffler was a piece of the exaust valve!!!! i have not miss treated this bike at all , its a 2005 and never been in a mud hole over the tires! i treat this bike like i do my truck!!! the only thing i can think of is the valve spring or the valve clips broke, i pray the piston or the cylander wall is'nt trashed!!
Any help would appreciated.

your going to be lucky if it didnt do any damage for sure. i would start pulling it apart to see myself and let us know what you find. looking atthe parts break down i would guess maybe a keeper let go and either that or part of the top of the valve stem came out and the valve must be setting onthe piston. just a guess.

Please post a pic of the piece, so we can properly identify it. Having seen the inside of a stock muffler, I'd be hard pressed to believe that a chunk of your exhaust valve made it to the muffler outlet. But if you're absolutely sure of what you saw/see, then you have some serious problems.
The only parts of the engine that I can imagine coming out the port would be a piece of the valve face or the valve seat, either case would be very bad. I would also suspect that the engine would not run at all after this.
If you suspect an exhaust valve, you might have some luck taking the header pipe off and looking to the exhaust port and see if you can find anything out of the ordinary. After that, you would have to take the valve cover off for an inspection. Next would be to remove the head for inspection of the pistons and cylinder walls.
Good luck.

I'm confused?
Are you saying that the valve head or part of it made it all the way through the port, through the pipe, all the way through the muffler and then hung up on the end of the pipe where you could see it?
And about the piston being ok. Sorry, that's not going to happen. That is where the bang you heard comes from.

correct me guys if im wrong here, but wouldnt it be impossiable for any part of the valve face to be going thru the exhaust port since it would have to travel thru the valve guide and out. my guess is turbo is right and the valve hit the piston on the up stroke when the keeper or something on that end let go.

Starting from the combustion chamber, once the object gets past the valve seat, then it has a straight shot into the exhaust port. It would still have to make it past the end of the valve guide, just not through it. The only thing that can fit through a valve guide is the valve stem.
