After spending the afternoon on my brothers new Explorer, I was very impressed with it. With the stock tires it had very little trouble going anywhere his 300 Honda with Vampires went. As I consider getting one I am also considering what tires to put on it. There seems to be a lack of good tires you can get in the 23X10 size. What would happen if you put 24's on the front? Seems like the 4X4 would kick in sooner since it would sense the front not turning as fast. Would it mess anything up? Is the gearing such that front turns the same as the back or different? Anyone know of good 4X4 tires you can get in the stock size if not? Thanks for any help!!

I have the 00 Model 400cc Xplorer,I also installed 26 inch Mudrunners all the way around it,with NO problems. They really work well on it.I also had 26 inch Mudrunners on my 99 Sportsman with no problems with the 4x4 system, good luck,

I would recommend going an inch bigger all around so as to keep the front/rear gearing as close to stock as possible. If you gear the front up too much (or rear down) the front hubs may not unlock properly.

i would measure the circumference of the stock tires and go from there, because different manufactures tire sizes may be different even if they say the same on the sidewall. keeping the circumference ratio the same will keep you in the ballpark. when installing new tire you should air them up and measure the circumference and if one is smaller than the other add more air air till they are the same. let it set for several hours to stretch it and then let the air down to the same as the other. i have seen 1 inch difference in circumference in new tires and this makes for strange handling.

I'm thinking about getting a 99 400 Scram 4x4. However one of the grand ideas for our trips was that between us we would carry a spare front and back. Well the Scram has smaller tires on it than the rest of the fleet. Are the bolt patterns the same? I would like to see about putting the bigger tires on it. I don't see what would be diff about this as a 400 explorer. The machine needs tires anyhow as I understand.
If they are the same bolt pattern, could I just get bigger tires for these rims so that the spares would fit either the ute or sport machines?
Looking for imput.

you can run stock 25 on the xplorer 250. according to my dealer when I had mine, he told me i could take the 25's off the Magnum 325 4x4 and they would go good. He said the 250 put out more power than the 325. Which I beleive I could easily out run a 325 2x4 and a 4x4 with my Xplorer 250. Also you can run the same size all around. the xplorer 250 is the only 4x4 that has different size front and rear tires. The first 335 SP's had the same tires as the xplorer 250 but then they changed it later on to both 24's. It might make the engagement different but it won't be a problem. I was going to put 24 inch tires all the way around.
