Sportsman Electrical Problem
#1
I was riding today and got in deep water when my front hubs stopped spinning, and the AWD light went off with the button still engaged. This ever happened to anyone, and what might have caused this. I turned the bike off and started it back never happened again. Any suggestions would be appreaciated.

JB, do you have anything hanging from your ignition key? It sounds to me like you’ve just fallen victim to an odd phenomena many of us on this forum have experienced. With anything hanging from your key, as you turn the handlebars it can touch your gas cap and rotate the key just slightly, turning off everything electrical on your bike. Everything except the spark plug that is, it will still run fine. During the day you won’t notice much except you no longer have AWD. The danger is you no longer have an operating cooling fan either, or a light to tell you you’re overheating. Only a few weeks after I bought my ’97 SP it was stuck in a hole (no AWD) and blowing coolant all over the place because the little Mag-Light I had hanging on the key got bumped. It took me a while to figure out what was going on but that was the culprit and it’s happened to many of us. You could probably do a search and come up with a bunch of posts on the subject as it comes up every now and then.
