I was working on an 05 Phoenix I bought a week ago, went to change the rear end fluid and I rolled it back a little and heard this eeeeeeeeee sort off noise. rolled it back and forth and it only seems to be in one spot. The weird thing is when I put the back end on a milk crate with the wheels off the ground, I can spin them and it doesn't make any noise. I adjusted the brake as it was dragging slightly thinking maybe that was doing it, spun the tires about a million revolutions ....no noise. Put it back on the ground and its back again just in one spot. The previous owner just had new whhel bearings installed. I have the paperwork and work was done by a Polaris dealer. I'm kind of stumped. No metal or metalic in rear end oil. Inspected the bevel gear you can see, no signs of damage to the big one anyway. Any opinions would be appreciated. It rides fine....no noise.

 

well if theres no metal shavings in the oil, i wouldnt worry too much about it unless it was making that noise all the way around. when you rotataed the wheels did you listen real close to the wheel bearings to make sure it wasnt them even though they said they had been changed. feel any kind of dragging or grinding when turning it slowly? just a couple of things to think about.

No binding but when it make the sound you can feel a slight vibe in the axle. And again, not when the wheels are off the ground......really weird! I speculate because there is no load on the bearings. There is no radial or side play detectable. Are both bearings sealed? or do the count on the trans case oil for lube? I hesitate to take it apart only to find nothing wrong with it. I already have enough home projects...LOL......
