shock spanner wrench, which one is correct??
#1
Would like to get a spanner wrench to adjust shock springs on my
2006 Sportsman 500. (Yeah I know I could use channel locks).
Online I can get them half price from what the dealer wants. However
there seems to be two different model wrenches and I cant find which
is the right one for me. OEM part numbers are 2870803 and 2870872.
Thanks for any help!

i have a polaris spanner wrench and it SUCKS. it's too long to get in there and the "tooth" had to be ground down to fit into the notches of the adjuster. then By the time you line up the tooth to a notch on the adjuster the other end is banging into everything else to even get it to move. I guess it would work ok if you take your tire off but who wants to do that just to adjust the shocks? Use large channel locks.

Okay, I have heard from others as well and the consensus is to forget being proper and using the 'correct tool' in this case. Spoke to a friend of a friend at a dealership and they said they just use channel lock 460's (with a rag) to adjust as the spanners aren't that great. Thanks for the replies. I am just starting out with a used quad and am trying to do things the right way...

I picked up a universal one for $15 at the local cycle shop. It has a different size on each end. Worked good on my Scrambler. My neighbors chipped in $5 apiece so they could use it whenever needed, so my cost was $5.

I tried useing channel locks but al idid was chew up the adjusting collar. When i tried a rag it slipped to much. I found the one from my scrambler but haven tried it yet.

Just as an update.. I used a big set of channel locks (model 460). Jacked the quad up to take tension off the springs.
Worked fine without rag, no damage, adjustment done. I think the trick is to get the load off the springs AND make
sure you have a big enough set of channel locks that can grab the ring/collar properly.
