Default 2008 Sportsman 500EFI price

Hello all,

After atv shopping I found the Sportsman 500EFI stealth. What a nice atv! Several questions. The dealer offered it to me for $6750 w/ the winch (Factory promo). He said that invoice was $6561. Only other fee will be a 50 doc fee. No taxes needed since I am out of state (live on the border of Wisconsin). Does that sound like a good deal?
To be honest I have been shopping for a new 2007 Honda Rincon 680 and did find one for $6300 otd. But I like the Sportsman! I am worried that power may be a issue if I go for the 500. I plan to put on the trax system down the road. Maybe the Sportsman 800 stealth may be a better choice? Does anyone know what are they going for and or the invoice price?
Thank you.

I paid $8000 including 5%va sales tax on my 08 800 stealth w/ ride free till 2009. i love it. i upgraded from a 05 700 twin and the power is insane compared to it. the low range in my 800 is almost to low, i never use it even when in mud and creeks (though i should) gas mileage sucks on the 800's. carry a 2 gal can with you if you go on long rides. for $8k polaris should have put the work lights in it from the factory but oh well.

the only other thing that irritates me is the exhaust heat shield is rattleing badly and it makes my machine sound like its falling apart. when my dealer opens back up after the 23rd im going to get them to do the break in service and fix the damn heat shield.

if you dont need massive power or just want to say i got an 800, then the 500 should be fine. its been around awhile and seems to be pretty bullet proof.

good luck on your decision.

I did borrow a 04 500 Sportsman HO 2 years ago. It did have plenty of power. My main concern is when I buy the track kit that it will have enough power to run them.

Mongrol runs tracks on his Hawkeye 300 and Sportsman 400 HO just fine.

I also have tracks on a Sports 400HO (455CC) and its got power enough to pull me in knee deep wet snow to 7000 ft. If you are going for a Polaris be sure to put Tatou's and Prospectors at the top of your list as they use a smaller gear on the rear by one tooth and this makes the AWD sensor think the rears are spinning and locks the front in, thereby driving all 4 tracks when the AWD switch is in 4DR.

Where are you located?

Thank you for the advice. I am located in McHenry Illinois. Located at the border of south WI. How do you like the 400 Sportsman? Last year I purchased a used 06 Hawkeye for my wife because she loved the size of the atv but after driving it for about all of 10 min found that the speed was not what she was looking for. I was so sad because I felt that it was the perfect size for a atv. I sold it one week later. It was a nice atv, just way too slow for my speed demon. Is it true that the new 400s are quite different?
How is the power and speed with the trax installed on your 400?

Thank you

The 400 eats the Hawkeye alive. With any tracks, you can realistically expect to loose 40-50 % of your top speed. The manufacturer's will tell u 20-30% . If your not interested in climbing power, just top speed, opt for the high displacement eng. But if speed is no concern, the 500 will climb with the best of them.

I'll post this, then I'll post my photobucket site and you can see what the Hawkeye and 400HO will do. Some pics are from today.

If speed is your thing, tracks may not be for you.

Its not that speed is my thing. I am 39 and love to cruse and enjoy the view if you know what I mean. After the purchase of our Hawkeye it put a scare in me. I just do not want to be crawling when I can walk for a few bucks extra if you know what I mean. I do prefer the 500 because of the bulllit proof engine. Have you ever had any issues with the tracks system while out and about?

Thanks

Thor
