So after a couple of years dabbling with a KLR650 dual sport motorcycle, I'm going back to a quad. I sold my '03 700 to buy the KLR and now wish I hadn't. That being said, in the back of my mind, I told myself that if/when I got another Polaris I'd do the 500.

I've been looking at Craigslist for the past month or so, and the price difference between the three models is not that great. I'm wondering if I should just get another 700. I did love the power, and gas is not an issue, nor is the pull start. I don't do mud, or have any desire to deviate from stock. The 600 always seemed like an odd size, as I think the milage is not all that great either, so why not go for the extra 100 cu/in.

All riding would be in AZ, from my backyard which is literally against the Tonto Nat'l Forest, or from the toyhauler up on the rim. (which would make EFI nice, but I never had mixture problems with the 700 or the wife's Magnum)

Thoughts?

 

i love my 700 and I dont thinkyou could go wrong either way

 

Personally I like the 500 EFI..I have owned the 600 and 700 which are geat machines but my new 07 sportsman 500 EFI Deluxe is Is my favorite....

Could you give some examples as to why?

i personally like the little extra power of the twins. the 500 is a really good machine though.

I (my wife and I) have a 500 carb, 700 carb, and 800 EFI. I like the 500 the best for just riding. I would go for the 500 efi for the best all around machine. I know they had new 500 EFIs around here for $5999.00 new last year.

 

We too live right next to the Tonto National Forest, (Bulldog Canyon) and have 2 2006 500 EFI machines. They have about 2k on them for mileage and we have never had any major problems. They have all the power that you would ever need out in the forest here. The EFI is really nice when you go up on the rim and its chilly, always have to laugh at our buddies with the kawi and arctic cats in the mornings. I will say though that when I get another machine that I would probably get the 800. Whatever machine you get be sure and let us know how you like it. Maybe we can hook up sometime and ride.

 

The 500 has been trouble free for me, although it only took a year before I was wanting something bigger. That's when I upgraded to the 800.
