our 1996 sportsman 500 has very little power full throttle only goes 20 we put in a new cam shaft check the carb and everything else we could think of still no power please help with any suggestion Thanks so much[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

i would check the clutch springs. i have a 2005 500 and it all of a sudden started doing 35-40 all the time. one of the springs was wore out..factory error got it for free and a new belt

 

Okay I am very new to the polaris world. (just bought mine used
a few months ago). Since you are talking about the same model
I have, what speed should it top out at?? .. just to see if mine is at least
up to snuff with others of the same kind.

is it revving up and not going or does it not even rev up?

It reves up to about half trottle and that's all she's got only goes 20mph it idles just fine. Any suggestions?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/img]

 

fuel filter or carb. have you ever cleaned the carb?

 

You say it revs up 1/2 throttle, can you get more revs by pulling the actual linkage on the carb? I always trace from the furtest point back, could you have a throttle problem, maybe a streached cable that is not giving you full throttle?

 

friend of mine had the same trouble while out on the trail..take a look under the throttle box up on the handle bar above the thumb control..his nut to the lever had came loose,and would not open the throttle all the way up..G'
