Default Hot handgrips and exhaust

I am new to the forum but have been reading the postings for some time. I have a 07 800 x2 DLX. I had hand warmers installed at the dealer and they are so hot that even on low you can't use them without gloves and even then they are too hot. Any ideas how to make them run a little cooler? Also, I was riding last fall and melted the ankle of my rain pants on the right side exhaust. Anyone else have that problem and any ideas for a fix? thanks

Hot grips are to be used with gloves! turn them off if you don't need gloves!
wrap the exhaust with heat tape.

seems like you could have another resitor put in the hot grips to reduce the power going to it to cool then down. how did you melt the ankle of your pants onthe exhaust while riding if your foot was on the foot board as the exhaust doesnt go down that far? the engine case does get pretty hot it self.

A buddy burned his calf, 600 twin, riding with shorts on. Radiant heat, no contact.
