Default EPI Spring for 2001 500 H O

Hey guys I am having the usual creeping problem when idling in gear. I put a new belt on a fews months ago and it stopped. It has now started back. I am going to take apart tonight to check the bushings. I am wondering if it might just be a weak spring since it quit with a new belt but now 300 miles later it's doing it again. The belt has been wet and slipped several times over the 300 miles and could have caused the belt to wear faster than normal. I have about 2300 miles and it has the stcok spring. Can anbody suggest a good EPI spring for just all around performance. I have 26" tires and have been fine with the stock spring but like anymore would like better performance if possible. If I could get a little quicker without losing top end that would be great. However I do not want to lose top end because I ride with a couple of 800 Sportsmans alot and need the top end. Would I be better of sticking with the Blue EPI spring or would one of the others make me a little quicker without sacrificing top end? Thanks for any suggestions/help!!!!

which ever spring you get, just make sure that the compression rate for top rmp stays the same and ust get a spring w/ a little more stiffer engagment pressure this way it should have effect on top end rpm's. some one might know the spring rates for stock and after market springs for you here to compare.

Stendori,
Thanks for the help let me make sure I understand this correctly. If my engagement pressure is higher but the top end load is about the same (example stock spring 115 and aftermarket 123) I shouldn't loose much on top end and will gain quickness?

thats the way on my 800 when rick sent me a bunch of differnt weight springs. what i found(like on the dalton)is that the engagement rpm what slightly high , but the top rpm didnt raise very much winch keeps you in the power of the engine by not over reving and loosing hp. this is what worked for me anyways on my applacation.

Have the primary clutch rebuilt, with that many miles i'll bet the ebs washers are getting bad that will make them creep.

I will let you guys how it turns out. I ordered the spring and should be in Wednesday. I am waiting until I get it before I tear into it because I will be riding this weekend. I forgot to mention that it usually does fine when it's cold but after a few miles of riding is when it starts to creep. That was another thing that made me think it might be the spring since the spring probably gets weaker after it warms up. I will be sure to check the washers too. Thanks for all your advice!!

its just a guess, but i doubt the spring is why its creeping. ive seen 500's w/ 7,000 miles on it and didnt creep. it could be it needs a good cleaning, rebuild or a combination of both. just a thought.

Cleaning is definitely a possibility. The clutch cover started leaking a couple of months ago and it got wet 5 or 6 times before I was able to get a new seal on. I was in a hurry when I put the seal on didn't even look at the clutch or belt for that matter when i had it apart.

I have looked at the drive clutch parts diagram on bike bandit to see which washers/bushings you guys are talking about that wear and need replaced. I am assuming it's #2, #3, or #18. Could someone please look and let me know if this is correct.
Thanks!!

theres alot more then that to rebuildingit. light weights, pins, brass bushings, spider buttons, one way bushing. now it all depends on how worn these parts are and you really cant tell until its all apart. just my input.
