From time to time I hear talk about how the Polaris 400 can blow away the Kodiak 400 all day long. As the saying goes, talk is cheap. Forget all the talk, let's put it to the test. I have a Kodiak 400 and live in Houston. If there is any willing participants that own the Polaris 400 that live in and/or around the Houston area, BRING IT ON! We'll make a trip out to Crosby to see which quad comes out on top.

Man, I wished I lived closer!! I would love to school ya!!! (all meant in humor) But really the polaris 400 is a two stroke it will out run a 500 SP in most cases, Do you really think the 4-stroke can out run a 2-stroke???

Maybe I should of been a little clearer. I didn't mean to imply "drag racing". I'm talking about trail riding, mudding. I've heard a lot of people with Polaris saying that their machine can outperform the Kodiak. Well, I have the Kodiak and I'm willing to put it to the test. I don't think there is any place that the Polaris can go that I can't

Hey there FKNA,

I have not visited Crosby yet. I ride Spring Creek real regular. You should head out our way sometime. Lots of great trails. Our core group consists of my bike, 400 Scram 4x4, 400 Sport 2x4, 400ex, Warrior, DS650 and goes all over from there. Lots of mud here....especially with all of this rain we are getting. I was out there last weekend and the 4x2 bikes just had no chance in the mud.

As far as the challenge goes, I don't really go for that sort of thing. Mainly cuz I just don't care enough about winning (but also cuz I don't wanna know if I suck) LOL I am always up for a roll through the mud though. Having said that, I will probably be the first guy to suggest a race or something out there.

Ahhh...the fickle finger of man,

FKNA: Beleive me, the Polaris can go lots of places you can't, I've been there, done that. No machine can mud as well as the Polaris, due to the all wheel drive, and high ground clearance.

FKNA,
Well this is certainly meant to be a respectful post from me,and I will tell you this much,I have witnessed several Kodiak 4x4s in the mud in the past, and from what I've personally witnessed, they are NO match in the serious mud for a Polaris 4x4 ATV.The Kodiak suffers from a bad case of 3wd instead of true 4wd like a Polairs ATV,and beleive me,the one extra wheel that the Polaris ATV has pulling for it is a huge advantage in the serious mud.

Now on the bright side of the Kodiak,it can really whip some tail in the trails,
Bill

MrMan,
We'll have to hook up one weekend. I like riding out in Spring. Hell, that's where I broke in my quad. I dumped it in the creek on my very first outing. That taught me real quick to always carry oil with me if I plan on riding the water.

You should check out Crosby sometime, it provides better mudding than Spring. Anyway, just shoot me an e-mail at fkna@msn.com and well go riding one weekend.

Quadfather......Bill,

It's because of that kind of talk I decided to present this challenge. And I'm the type of person that has to have things like this proven to them. Besides, it's all about having fun, isn't it?

Let me tell you of a recent experience. I currently have a completely stock Kodiak. A couple of weeks ago I was out riding in Crosby. I ended up tagging along with a group of people that I met out on the trail. Anyway, to make a long story short I was right behind someone riding a Polaris 400. We came upon a 5-6 foot muddy incline. After three tries, this NON-stock Polaris gave up. After he got out of my way, I headed towards the same hill. He said there was NO WAY I would be able to make it. Well, I proved him wrong.

Anyone want to PROVE ME WRONG???

Hey FKNA~
If this incline was only 5-6 feet, the guy on the Polaris must have been some kind of idiot. Anybody with any common sense would have gotten a little speed and could have basically coasted up this "incline" unless it was straight up. OK, so you supposedly beat the Polaris ONCE. Where else is your Kodiak going to beat the Explorer? Deep mud? NO! Speed? NO! Snow? NO! Suspension action? NO! Pulling power? NO! Looks like you're fighting a losing battle with this topic!

FKNA,

Yeah, the creek can be cruel. Every time a storm comes throught the creek crossings change. We put on waders and test the deep crossings before we go.....until we get impatient of course. *chuckle* Have you had a chance to try out Devil's Hole yet? That place is legendary for swallowing up 4 wheelers...full size trucks....unsuspecting animals etc. I have seen a Hummer get buried in there.

I would like to try out Crosby sometime. Thanks for the invite.
