So I jump on my wifes Scrambler today to climb a hill, well I get about 1/2 way up and clunk, clunk, clunk. It sounds like its coming from inside the belt cover almost like its jumping teeth on the sprocket. I dont know anything at all about these cvt's and such. It did it going up the hill and also when I hit the throttle pretty hard. Any idears?

If it were a bad belt would it make this noise. It is a really loud and sounds horrible. I used to have a Honda 250x and one time I broke a couple teeth off the sprocket and this is what it reminds me of.

A shredded belt flopping around will make some horrible noises.

Check the belt first then the front drive sprocket. If those are good it is time to pull the tranny and replace the silent chain inside the gearcase.

What did this end up being? I have a similiar issue and mine sounds like it is coming from the gearcase. I am guessing the silent chain as it only happens in forward gear.

It was the front sprocket of the rear drive. All the teeth were worn down and the chain was skipping.
