Any new news on the HPD reed conversion for the TBlazer?

Ok, Im confused. I have an RCR pipe and silencer, and a clutch spring. What does a reed do and does this kit include any port work or anything hard?? AND can I get it without the pipe and crap I already have?

I know what you mean. Even when mine was stock my brothers 400 sport had a hard time catching me on the trails but as soon as we hit a wide open area, it was all over. Every year when I would add a mod to mine, he would add something to his.
I think he's alittle worried. He has said that he wished he would have kept his TB.
Darrell at HPD has told me that they are also working on a full blown race TB. It runs on 110 octane gas, has a different head and is about 40 hp.

jfreak,

I'm not real sure on all the technical stuff of it, but basically a reed cage is what most other 2 stroke quads and dirtbikes have - the TB is a piston port motor. I think the reed cage basically allows for fuel and air to mix better between the carb and the piston - or something to that effect. In any case - a reed cage makes more hp than a piston port motor. And yes, if HPD gets this kit out I'm sure you'll be able to purchase a kit minus the parts you already have. You'd probably have to get the reed conversion, bigger carb, porting, headwork and wiseco piston. Hope this helped!

there is no way a 250 blazer is going to beat a 400 scram with those mods,unless they make it crank a lot more rpms.just not enough cubes to do it.

Cubes don't mean anything. Can the 378cc Scrambler beat a 350cc Banshee, or how about the 250R, that ain't even close to the Scramblers cc range, but its a heck of a lot faster.

The testing, the Blazer with these mods has already beat a Scrambler. The only thing the Scrambler had was top end. In a short race or woods race the Blazer prevailed.

These mods should add plenty of revs. Compare any piston port engine to any reed valve engine. Reed engines always rev faster. After the addition of the reeds to the 250 engine, it should rev much better. At least thats what we hope.

being equal in driver skill and weight cubes means alot.you will have to turn more rpms to beat it.

You also have to take into concideration that the Blazer has a much lighter dry weight. A 2000 Blazer weighs 440lbs. A 2000 Scram 400 2x4 comes in at 501lbs.

Thanks for the reply. After making the mods on your 99 TB were you happy with the results. I just started looking into all the available mods and really don't want to waste any $$'s. I want to be certain that I'm buying power not parts. If you can shed any light on this subject it would be great. Did you install your mods yourself or have someone install them. I'm a shade tree mechanic at best, just don't want to get in over my head. Beefy250

I've done all my mods myself and the only one that I think is a waste of money is the Mikuni 38mm TMX carb. Its way to hard to set and it seems to be very sensitive to climate changes.
I wish that this reed conversion was available back when mine was new. It would have saved me money in the long run. I figure that I have around 800.00 dollars in just engine and clutch mods now.
I just used HPD's clutch holding tool for the first and its well worth the $80 dollars. Most of the mods can be installed with basic tools and usually the instructions are easy to follow. A shop manual will help alot!!!!!!!!!
I figure that with this reed conversion I will be able to run with my brothers piped 400 sport.
We time our runs on a 100 yard straightaway and mine is in the low 7.0 sec to high 6.80 sec now.
His is in the low 6.25 seconds and his has a pipe and clutch kit now.
Anyway, I know its not going to have the top end of a 400 but if I'm out trail riding and I happen to come across a 100 to 200 yard straightaway ahead of him, who do you think is going to get to the other side first!!!!!!!!!!!

On an up note change the gearing of the trailblazer and who knows what might happen
