Default Throttle cable adjustment

All -

After going thru all this Carb and tuning
business to get my quad to run and then
sound and run right, I noticed that there
is alot of play in the throttle cable that I can
pull it from the right handlebar side behind
the THUMB THROTTLE. When I do it Revs.

THIS IS DANGEROUS, at least for my wife
who will drive it. I really don't know how this
thing could of losened but it did. Anyways
where the break is covered up by the rubber
boot covers I was fiddling with it to hand
adjust it, but it would just stay idled or lessen
to cut off.

AM I missing something, is there another place
to adjust like on the other end, I see it going into
the POD housing but had to wrap it up last weekend,
I didn't TRACE it all the way as of yet.

Any help would greatly be appreciate it!

i will check mine tonite - like i said in your other thread when mine was dieing off it was the cable adjustment that was the culprit. I will look at mine tonite and check about where you can adjust it but my guess is what you adjusted is the only spot.

you know i double checked my 400 today and it has the 1/8" gap inthe throttle before you feel it open the throttle. this way it doesnt effect the etc or under throttle.

Take the front storage box off, you have screw's under the fender's also beside's the one's inside the box, Then pull off front fender's, take gas cap off, pull plastic push pin's out of frame and pull back on fenders to get over gas tank. Check loop that cable goe's thru and make sure there is plenty of play in throttle cable. As soon as you get front plastic off and storage box off you will see what I am saying. It is vey easy.

Okay great, I will check it out this weekend,
and make the necessary adjustments.

For a sanity check though, can either of you
pull/tug upward on the cable itself and get
it to Rev? I need to know if this is normal or
NOT. I don't believe it is based on checking
my 800, its a solid as could be.

Thanks all!

No that should not happen, It's hard to explain but once you get the plastic off and box you will see how cable is routed. I believe that your cable is getting hung up because when you are turning the wheel it is throttling up. You will see that it goes up thru pod, did you headlight mod it? Have you zip tied anything. Zip tie's are great on these thing's as long as they are not yanked too tight. Factory has cost me replacement ofplug wire's because of zip tie's on frame to tight, the with engine torque rubbing them raw. Get them off of frame and on the rad hose or a piece of rubber. What I have learned.

Okay all good to know. No I haven't check that yet and I will thanks for all the info.
And NO to the Headlight MOD, hadn't done it yet nor anything else in the POD housing,
this quad has sat all winter shame to say. I have paid a big price of not pre-maintenance
it nor WINTERIZING her. But the loose throttle cable threw me, it really did, I didn't expect
that.

I will update once I do work on her this weekend, cheers you all and have a great
weekend, hope you all get to RIDE vs. FIXING problems, LOL

Just a question here for you RticKwad.....Was the 2006 450 into the dealer for the ECM recall??
If it was they could have got the cable "CAUGHT" under the front storage rack when they did the replacement!!!........Was this when you started having the issues?............Caper........

No I haven;t had my serviced yet, if I get this thing fixed and running good, then I will
be dropping it off for service on the way to my next ride, next week I hope.

I started having issues as soon as I pulled her out to start her after a good sit
thru the winters months. You all check out my previous thread for context to reference on
all the good info, for troubleshooting with Carb issues and what not.
