I buy my batteries at Wal Mart for the snow machines and ATVs. Just tell them what you have and they will give you one that fits, better yet bring your old one in with you. Our American Sault Michigan Walmart carries "Everstart" and the Canadian Sault Walmart carries "Energizers".
Yes, when my battery was done for I still left the dead battery connected.

Yeah, I thought you had to leave the battery in just to keep things from blowing up. They sell generic batteries at Meijer department stores too, and at most auto stores.
Hi TLC.
I hope to do some riding around the Soo area this year. My mom has cabin in Dafter I can stay in and I thought about getting on the railroad grade at Raco and seeing how far I can go. I used to snowmobile on it YEARS ago. I never rode Drummond Island but I'm trying to talk my friends into it. That's the one place I'm not ready to ride alone. I've been to Bay City Lake trail next to the casino in Hessel and another one called Cranberry Lake. Two years ago we went over by Grand Marais (spelling?) but most of the gang wanted to fly down the road instead of ride the trails. We did ride them a little, Two-Heart and the one next two it. We visited Pine Stump Junction and can't figure out why it's even a dot on a map. I rode those trails by myself several years ago and enjoyed it. Some days I rode all day and never even saw another person, which was a nice change from the trails that we Trolls usually ride.

On older machines(not sure of when they changed it) if you had a bad battery the voltage regulator would try to charge it back up and could(and would) send more than 15 volts to it trying to get it back up to where it's suppose to be. When you have 15 plus volts going to it, it also went to every electrical component on the machine. It was famous for frying reverse limiter boxes. it could also fry the cdi and definately would fry bulbs that were on when it was rapped up. you can actually see the bulbs get brighter than normal and if you were carefull you could keep from ruining them by not rapping the engine up too high. If I had to guess on what the last year was that this happened I would say aroun 96 or 97. Always have a good battery in you machine regardless of the year.
Even if the dead battery was still hooked up, it can still happen. When I say dead I mean junk battery, not just a drained battery.
