dealer said there is a clip, although i see no visual clip. diagrams that I have seen put the retaining clip where there is no way to reach and release it. Have not been able to remove either inner or outer joint. So far less than impressed with my polaris purchase. Since purchased in late dec 07 have had to put $700.00 in repairs.

thanx for info and pics. the rear axle joints on 08 sportsman touring has no visible clip on either inner or outer. was finally able to separate the inner slide joint from the axle which was held on by a spring clip, have to repack that joint now also and get new clamps to put back together, have you or anyone you ride with use or found any good stick gaurds for rear axle cv's?

Not me. Mine is stock and I'm really rough on a quad. I run over stuff instead of going around.

hey can you PLEASE tell me how you got that ball bearing cage off the half shaft??? I have 14 hours on my 08 sportsman and ripped the boot and even my dealer doesnt know how to get this thing off! Polaris has horrible warranty ppl that wont even help me. My dealer told me that i might need to buy a new half shaft for 300.00! So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can see a clip of some sort that appears to be in the middle of the cage. But there is no way to get anything down there to get it out! Dealer says a couple light hits with a hammer that clip should break away but mines not breaking.

I was able to tap it with a hammer a few times and it came apart.
