Default 2008 Sportsman 500 HO BIG PROBLEMS - HELP!

So I am riding my new (<10 miles) 500 around this weekend. It starts making a clicking noised like a spark plug would make. I think this is odd, and notice that its nearly out of gas. I add a little to get home, stops in my driveway. I fill the thing up, but it will not crank. I notice the battery is now down to 10.4V, but try to start the engine one more time. Sounds like it's going to turn over, but then I hear a "bang".

WTF? Suggestions? I am fairly new to ATV's and don't know much about their construction. Gas shouldn't be bad, Ignition isn't clicking, it just wont start the engine, and their are less than 5 hours on the thing.

dude w/ 10 miles on it and being brand new take it back to the dealer and dont mess w/ it. imo. you got more wrong then a spark plug if its only putting out 10.4 volts and that bike needs at least 12.5 to keep it running.

I agree. You shouldn't have to mess with things like this on a bike that new.

The loud bang was just extra fuel that just burnt off while trying to start ...IMO..
Did you get the voltage reading while the Quad was running?........Sounds like the reading was taken while the engine was not running?...Caper.........

Sounds like you had issues before you ran out of gas though!!

You may have also killed the battery while trying to start it with no gas.....
How long did you try and crank the starter before putting more gas in ??
........Caper..............

I knew it was out of gas cause thats the first thing I checked. So I might have tried to crank it a couple of times. It actually sounds like it just isn't getting gas to the engine now. I looked for a manual pump to prime the engine initially, it sounds like the tank I just put in just isn't getting there. I am thinking the battery may not be my only issue though. I got it up to 13.4 tonight when trying to crank via jumper cables. Still the same result.

I have noticed though that to run a full tank through the thing and only have 39 miles (it had 19 when I bought it) doesn't seem right either.

You should be getting closer to 100 miles on a tank than 39.
