I check my counter bal oil and found there were very littel if any in it filled it up and then it stated smoking really bad lite blue the coolant is not going down could this be the chank seal if so is this a big deal to replace what all goes in to chageing it

what year/model is it and is this a new symptom, (smoking), or has it been doing this a while?

 

its a 95 400 xplorer 4x4 I bought it 2-3 months ago smoked very littel then and i put the oil in it and looked like it was on fire then
