Default Axle Torque

I had a hard time removeing my axles this time.(front) I can usually undo the nut and drop the a arm and pull it out with my hands, not this time. I had to use a hammer and beat the hub off.(both sides) Any aswers to why? I have done alot of searching and can't seem to find the right torque spec. It seems to go from 40 to 80 ftlbs. Which is it?(05 Sportsman) Would the 80 ftlbs. cause a hard time getting the axles out? I had them at 80 and need to know if it is to be 40.

Where are you getting your specs from? Does one place say 40 and another 80, or does it just say 40-80?

I have just been reading threads. Some say 40 and others say 80. One guy said that the manual said 40 on one page and then 80 on another. He was confused too, and nobody replied the corect one. I would call the stealership but I don't trust them either. Sorry to hear about the stolen quad frank.

Thanks gooroo. I got a thread about it and I'm looking for ideas to keep it safe. I don't have a garage and kept it chained up but that didn't help one bit. [img]i/expressions/brokenheart.gif[/img]

So far it looks like I'm going to have to take two wheels off and store them and the nuts all in separate locations, put wheel locks on the other two wheels, install an alarm and Lo-Jack, chain it to a pit-bull with AIDS, feed him spaghetti and Alka-Seltzer so it looks like he's rabid and covered in blood, spend day and night guarding it with my "assault rifle", while cameras record everything in front of the motion sensor lights, and then it starts to get complicated. I read the thread and you forgot to mention the electric mat. Shocking! Any ideas on the torque? By the way what are you going to do about another quad? I know you can't go with out.

I said it starts to get complicated. Can somebody bump that thread for me. I feel guilty when I do it.

99% sure it will be another 500EFI. I just wish I had it when I go up north tomorrow morning. I might wait for the '09s but then I won't be able to ride during our yearly 4th of July trip. We always get a gang together for 2-3 weeks when possible.

HEy gooroo, I have the 2007 and 2008 500 efi manuals. I can tell you what they say, just tell me what to look for. Only problem is that I'm heading out in 5 minutes but I'lll be back later it you still need the info.

Thats too bad Frank, was it you that said the "09's will have different added features? Oh well guess it doesn;t matter as long as you get something fairly soon.

I just want to know what the torque specs are on the front axle nuts, or castle nuts, or cv nuts. Man thats a lot of nuts. What ever kind of nut you want to call it. I just want to know how tight to twist the nuts.

Someone else said there will be a 550 and 850 with different engines. Transverse like the "pancake" engine in old VW bugs, or BMW bikes, where the cylinders lay flat.
