Clutch Kits
#21
i would clutch the 400 or the 500 ,just make sure that your kit includes a helix matched for the weights and springs..i did notice a difference with the H/C in low 4x4 plowing, the clutch case did not get as hot..as far as performance the h/c will not give back what the tires took( or even close).. do'nt waste the $$$ thinking it will..i would go with a big-tire kit made for the wheeler not a one kit fits all like the h/c... just my 2 cents( i did spend them)!!

Well I finally got the 700 in some good mud last night...I'm going to buy a clutch kit. I smoked the belt several different times. I guess if the kit will spin the tires instead of smoking the belt it is worth the money.

As I said above I am a lot more familiar with snowmobile set-ups then ATV but they are similar and from years of experience I can tell you this much-If you really want to notice a difference when you clutch it, do a real clutch tuning and change the helix with the spring change other wise all your doing is "band-aid" tuning and you really can't expect a big difference doing that

I don't know anything about Bikeman but EPI is supposed to be really good. I'm surprised more people don't use them. Lot's of different options too.
Every belt I smoked bad, and there were a few, worked great for about 100 more miles, then shredded. I just carried a spare belt and basic tools with me and waited for it to blow up. It might be the next ride or the one after that. It may peel a little bit then more or less explode. Sometimes chunks fly out of the snorkel and land on my left foot. I pull off the trail and change it. It takes me 1/2 hour without a ratchet wrench. It never hurt the pulleys and I got all the possible use out of the belt before I threw it away. But I know it WILL fly apart sooner or later.

the real big diff. (to me) is that w/ a 2 stroke and liker weight its not the same way of looking at it and not to mention these bikes have a transmission and on the sleds the clutches are really the trans. power band in the sleds would be differnt. im like you i played w/ sled clutching alot more and its night and day differnce it seems on the sportsmans imo.
