My balls are dirty

I only have one ball. I don't worry about my ball getting rusty because it will get polished up nice and shiny when I tow my trailer. Then when I unhook the trailer, I put a rubber ball cover on to keep my ball clean. Sometimes the ball cover flys off in the carwash. Just take it off before you go and your ball will be squeaky clean when you get home. Then you have to cover your ball again when it's dry. I turn the cover at least 360 degrees when I put it on to smear the grease around evenly. Add a little more new grease to your ball before you hitch up the trailer each time, and it will keep your ball nice and greasy.
If you use your ***** often enough, they won't rust.

I put a thin coat of petroleum jelly on my *****. It keeps everything lubed up and prevents rusty ball syndrome (RBS). The drawback is that it tends to drip in the summertime if you overapply and can get on your clothes and garage floor. I have also tried a thin coat of polaris grease. That works pretty well also.
Don't forget about the other friction surface. Make sure the tongue is also lubed so things slide easier.
