Ok now that I have your attention I cannot seem to keep my trailer ***** from rusting! Anyone have a great way for removing the rust then rust proofing?

 

problem i had with that is it ALWAYS wears off and until then rubs off on everyone that bumps up against it

 

Steel wool should help keep your ***** from rusting..........I don't like keeping my ***** out in the rain though!
If you use the steel wool between the ball and hitch when using this will keep it very clean..Due to the fact when you turn with the trailer on ......It's cleaning!!

Also you only need to worry about cleaning only one ball.....I have two to keep clean 1 7/8" and 2"..

I purchased a "silent hitch" that has a screw that tightens otherwise the dam thing clanked like it was falling off

 

the biggest issue is because of the cheap crome coating of finsh they use of the ***** these days. once it starts to wear off from use they rust really quick. maybe use never seize as well. imo.

 

I just spray mine regularly with white lithium grease.

 

Use your ***** on a daily basis and they won't rust. Also I've read that you need to grease your ***** but greasy ***** are messy. I wouldn't worry about the rust on your ***** because only good steel rusts quickly!

Buy yourself a stainless steel ball.

I'm feel for ya caper, I still have two of the same size! LMAO!

Although I have often wondered about this very subject, I don't recall ever hearing of a ball snapping in half, so I quit worrying about it!
