Default Another first oil change question(s)

Okay, I can see where to drain the oil from the tank and I can see where to drain the oil from the engine sump, but getting back in there to get to that screen looks tough. You guys pull off the plastic fenders and floorboards to get a better shot inthere? Do you dismount the oil reservoir so that you can get at it a little better? First timer here.

Thanks.

I don't know what the exact procedure is.

Does one remove the tank? Or the battery?

Would be nice for someone with a Touring or X2 model who has done this to reply.

OK, I will leave the decision to clean the screen up to you, the screen is there to catch foreign materials that made their way into the oil tank through the filler. the oil is run through the filter before it reaches the engine.

How does one get to the screen to remove/check it? on Mine its not facing outward toward the wheel well, its facing back in right up next to the battery and coolant overflow reservoir. The only way I can see to practically get in there to check it is to either remove the oil tank or remove the battery, but even then, the cage for the battery looks like its going to be in the way.

anyone have any tips?

Thanks in advance...

BTW Thanks sheepdog for the links I went and read them and it looks like Ill be pulling the tank.

I can say with all honesty that I have only done it once and I found it easier to pull the tank from its mount.

I just pulled the oil tank off , its a couple of bolts and some hoses, when i changed oil, i could get a wrench on the fitting while it was in , but i couldn't get the fitting to turn, and was afraid i was going to break the tank , so i took it out.

Cool.

I'm trying to balance the odds of me breaking/screwing something up (by trying to clean the screen and all that entails) with doing a thorough job of the oil change. Dropping the tank sounds like the way to go. I checked out the exploded parts diagram on the Polaris web site and found its really only 2 bolts holding the oil tank in place. Should be easy to take off and get to the filter that way.

Do you use regular teflon tape to reseal the filter assembly when done or something special.

manual states:
" Apply Loctite 565 Thread Sealant (PN2871956), to the clean and oil free threads of the fitting"
