New Wheels for Sportsman 700 X2
My son rode my new Sportsman 700 X2 a couple weekends ago and did an endo. Didn't cause too much damage, but it did plant the left front wheel in the dirt pretty hard. Looks like the wheel rim is bent a bit. It held air for several days, but then I cleaned the rocks/dirt out of the rim. Thought that would give a better seal. Held air for about 8 hours, and now appears to be flat. So ... I'm figuring I'm going to have to buy a new rim (tire is in good shape). Here's my questions:
1. Are all Polaris tires on the same 4-bolt pattern? In other words, if a rim fits the Sportsman 500 HO will it also fit the 700 X2?
2. Rim prices local appear to be in the $80+ range, so it looks like a new set of alloy rims might be a better choice. Any problems moving my original OEM tires onto alloy rims?
3. Any advise on swapping rims that you'd care to give?

Check the offset, I think the rear are different offset on the X2's but the fronts may be the same. If you have a local dealer handy see if they have any deals on take offs or try Craigslist and Ebay. I people selling like new take offs on those sites quite often and my local dealer has stacks of take offs pretty regular.

I do believe they are all the same bolt pattern, 4/156mm. Just don't know if the offset is the same between models.
And there won't be any problems moving your stock tires to different rims, just as long as the rim size is the same.
I have a set of stock 12" metal rims from my '06 500 HO that you can have for the price of shipping. Like new, no damage, silver/greyish paint. Let me know if you would like to see pics of them. I can also take offset measurements of them if you need.
ADDED:
Or you can have just the one rim if thats all you need.

I'm going to do some work on the rim this afternoon and see if I can get it to seal again. May try some fix-a-flat as well. I'll also do some measuring to see what the offsets are. Good thing about having both quads is that I can compare the 700X2 with the wife's 500 EFI side by side.

Most of that flat tire stuff, even "Slime" won't work on bead leaks. I have a bead leak right now on the front left tire of my 800, and it won't seal with "Slime". Check the bottle of whatever it is you might buy, and look for a warning or notice that says if it won't seal leaks in the bead.
doc, I'm in Marquette Michigan, where are you? Just trying to estimate shipping cost/time if you end up wanting one of my rims.

If you lay the wheel flat on the ground SLIME might seal the bead, but the rim has to be in straightened out first. I would take the tire off and use a sledge hammer and a 2x4 on the rim. Or just get a free wheel.

It looks like the same for both the wife's '08 500 HO and my '08 700 X2, at least for the front. I got just over 6 inches, which should compute to the 156mm spacing for the bolt holes. It is a 4 bolt pattern, and in looking at the two quads side by side it sure looks like the front wheels are the same.

I sure appreciate that. I'm trying to decide whether I want to replace with the standard wheel (that silver color) or just spring for some new wheels with the original rubber. I will let you know this weekend what I decide.

DO NOT use fixer flat as its designed for cars that are doing 45 mph or faster and wont work. if its a steel rim, just take a big hammer where its bent and hammer it back(might even need some heat if tires not on rim) into place. i ve done it a few times on my older bikes. check ebay for prices on used rims as well.

I've used Fix-A-Flat successfully on ATV tires as long as it's NOT a bad bead leak. The rim needs to be straightened. If you heat the wheel up it will make the steel softer. If you work it too much it will make it brittle. Either way you might end up making it worse. But I still say, just beat on it with a sledge hammer, using a 2x4 to cushion it. If you lay it on an old rug it protects the other side and helps keep it from skidding around when you hit it.
With the right hammer I can fix almost anything. That's why I need 1/2 dozen different kinds.

Robert ... got the rims, but may not need them. I got the other one beat out enough that it's holding air, but it may be a good idea to have a spare anyway. Just wanted to let you know, though, that I got them and I really appreciate you taking the effort to "give" them to me for shipping. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
