Default New Owner - 06 Scrambler 500 4x4

Hey guys, I just bought a used 2006 Scrambler 500 4x4. I bought if off eBay and just picked it up from the freight dock yesterday. I haven't had much time to go over it with a fine tooth comb yet, but I already noticed the rear axle is slightly bent. Not enough to make it un-rideable, but enough to make it shake when I rode it down my street.

I had a 1996 Scrambler 400 4x4 that I bought new in 96, but sold it (and my other quads) in 1999. I haven't had any quads in nearly 10 years, and it appears several things have changed about the Scrambler over the years.

I like the shaft front drive, that's a nice improvement. I haven't got enough ride time to tell if I like the 4 stroke 500 over the 2 stroke 400 yet though. It feels pretty strong though.

I also noticed that the rear shock isn't a remote res FOX shock anymore. That kinda stinks. And where is the trailer ball/hitch mount?

Can I find a FOX shock off an older Scram and swap it out? What years should I look for?

Can I add a trailer ball/hitch mount plate? Or does the rear disc get in the way?

Are there any other notable changes in the Scrambler over the years that may be helpful to know?

Anywhere I can download an owners manual and/or service manual? I wanna change out all the fluids so I know they are clean and fresh since I dont know all the history of this machine. I'm a DIY guy, so I dont plan on taking it to the dealer/service dept unless I absolutely have to.

Anything else I'm forgetting? I'm all ears so feel free to tell me whatever you guys think I should double check, change, replace, etc etc........

Hey Ginther try Quadboss for the hitch. Try Polaris for the owner's manual. They also have parts manuals available online to get part numbers. You may need to create an online user account. It's free and painless. I've had mine for a few years and Polaris doesn't send emails or anything like that.

Polaris down graded the Scrambler in 04.REmoved the Fox rear shock, rear hitch, no cross bar and pad on handle bars and a few other small things.
A Fox rear shock from a 2000-03 will work, any Polaris rear hitch will work.

The Clymer is good for the older Polaris but you really need a Factory Polaris manual for an 04 -up.
EBAY you can get them for around $30

Thanks for the links. I downloaded an owners manual, now I just have to sort thru all the "warning" pages to see if it actually has any useful information. LOL!!

Cool. That's what I was wondering. So a pre-2000 shock won't work? Did they change the swingarm or something?

Is the FOX shockworth trying to change? My 96 Scrambler had one, my 06 does not. It's been several years since I've ridden and I only have about an hour ride time on this 06 now. The "non" FOX shock feels ok, but I still wonder if a FOX would make any noticeable difference to a recreational rider.

Whatch'all think?

I noticed the Clymer cover up to what? 2000? I was wondering if there was enough difference between a 2000 and my 06 to justify searching for a more current manual.

Is there?

I'm also about the buy a 2000 Scrambler 400 2x4 and a 2005 Trail Blazer 250. Any idea if there's a manual that covers all my bikes?

Polaris made major changes in 04.
FOX rear shock and front struts make a world of improovments.
