Polaris fluids
#1
Hello all. Some elementary questions for you experts...
I picked up a used 2002 Sportsman 500. I was told it was well cared for, but for good measure I decided to change all the fluids.
I visited my local Polaris dealership and told the service counter employee that I wanted to change all the fluids. So far, I changed the oil, oil filter and transmission fluid (which was a lot darker than what came out--is this ok?).
3 questions, if you will?
1.) I have a couple of quarts of fluids left. One is called "ATV ANGLE DRIVE FLUID", part number 2876160, which I'm pretty sure is for the front drive and maybe the back too?
2.) I have a quart of "DEMAND DRIVE FLUID", p/n 2871654, but I'm not sure what this is for? Maybe my hubs? Not sure if I need this?
3.) Also, I have a few quarts of coolant. I'm not sure where the drain plug is?
If anyone could help, I would certainly appreciate your help!

d Sounds confusing and is!! HERE GOES: demand drive fluid for outboard awd (oil in hubs)OR centralized awd( later models ) Angle drive fluid for front gearcase for oil in hub models! 5oz in FRONT CENTRALIZED unit, but upon draining /refill about 4 oz usually. In HUBS drain/fill turn to 4 or 8'oclock position to drain excess DEMAND DRIVE fluid In a nutshell CENTRALIZED AWD front gearcase takes demand drive fluid, HUB activated awd front gearcase takes ANGLE DRIVE fluid!
Yes I know,You dont even have to say it! Transmission takes AGL/GC fluid !

should be about 2 qts for the coolant. worse case take off the bottom rad. hose to drain it. be warned that you must get all the air out of the system or it will have air pockets which will cause overheating. imo.

The front diff takes Polaris gear oil ,the SP500 has "no" rear diff ,its the tranny doing two jobs at once and it takes a Polaris chain case fluid that is different from the front diff's gear oil.

I was under the impression that I should of run 80/90 in the rear, demand in the front hubs and diff and AGL in the tranny but when I went to the local dealership I asked for the stuff to do a full fluids change on my 99 500 he told me to run the demand drive fluid in hubs and AGL in the tranny and frt&rear diff, so thats what I did, should I be changing out any of it?

The SP500 tranny which contains the chain and low, high and reverse gears inside, is the rear diff (all in One). It takes a chain case fluid designed for the transmission, the front diff is a different fluid according to my manual.

I should of added the ATV is a 99 500 Magnum 4x4 so it has the NON-IRS rear, its a straight axle so I have a rear diff separate from trans thats why I question running the AGL in all 3--trans, frt&rear diffs should I change out the rear and put 80/90 or leave the AGL?
