Default Are single-lever brakes dangerous?

if you realy need to stop if you had duel levers you would have to let off the gas grab the levers and would be playing with both at the same time to get it to slow down quick and at the same time hit the brake pedal and whtn you grab a brake lever you are not grabbing the handlebars as good and it is easier to get your hand ripped off if you hit something like a rut. on the polaris the praking is perfect just pull one lever and keep your right hand tight on the bars. The braking poer is distributed threwout the atv realy nicely and if you pull them the front slows you down and just the right amount of presure is going to the back to make them start to slide so they are at there max stopping ability so if you had duel brake levery you couldn't do better than that because if they did lock up it wouldn't help you any more. thats at least how the scrambler sport and sportsmans i droke felt. i didn't even use the pedal if i applied more to the back it would just totaly lock and not help.

Thanks. I wonder how long I can keep it? The only stopping power I have to worry about is stopping the @$$holes who keep ripping me off. I think I'm going to rent a storage unit.

<u>Thanks for the great replies everyone. Lets hear some more.</u>

If I were you JF, I'd be sleeping with that atv.

Congrats.

If it would fit through the door I'd keep it in the house. Sometimes I do that with my scooter. I have a multi-purpose dining room / garage / computer room / storage room / dog house.

Probably wake up and find someone broke in and left another one.

I'd rather have separate brake handles but I don't consider them dangerous. Dual brake levers provide a bit more control in very extreme riding situations.

Switching between the two and getting use to one or another takes some time and that is annoying.

I'm not the most experienced rider out there (only owning an ATV for a week). I purchased the Polaris (after extensive research) based on the technology. I have tested the uphill and downhill ADC control and the single braking system. i totally feel comfortable and safe with the product. of course practicing safe riding habbits are always a must. Go POLARIS!

i agree with stendori. it all depends on how experienced you are and how you use your atv. if your just cruisin around or using your atv for utility like yardwork and stuff, a single lever gives you more brake with less work. but for trail riding and bashing, it makes it fun to have separate brakes.

I think the only way it would be remotely dangerous would be if the master cylinder failed. But if the pedal is adjusted properly, you can still stop.

If single lever brakes were dangerous then auto makers would have seperate pedals for front and rear brakes in cars and trucks. Even semi trucks have single pedal brakes.</end quote></div>

Cars have a dual piston master cylinder. Basically 2 master cylinders in one. If one half fails, you can still stop the car.
