Default part burnt up

I just took a part of my o5' sportsman 500. Over the weekend it kept shorting out like it had gottin wet. Yesterday morning my garage smelt like burnt oil smell. I traced it to my Polaris. The part I took off was in front below the headlight. The info on it is:
SP industries
4011110 400/500
S/N c06131416

The other part that was burnt I have found on ebay but I have noi idea what this part is.
Thanks for any help.
Annette

I think its the voltage regulator, a black square box with about six wires? My 425 burned one up, no problems since I replaced it.

Ok, I looked around more. I don't think it is the voltage regulator. I believe it is the ECM? If so it is part of a recall because of fire hazard. I did not recieve an notices, but I am the second owner. It is a black box with S/N of 4011110.....I read that this has a newer replacement part with S/N 2203348.
I will get my vin numbers and check with the local shop.
Thanks,
Annette

Yes that's the Sure Power Module(Black Box)
I am on my third one right now!!
This one you have should be MADE IN CHINA

The replacement one is now silver and MADE IN THE U.S.A.
The replacement one also needs a wiring harness that comes with it ....Just a adapter to make the plug-ins fit without cutting any wires......My wife is waiting for hers.....Last time I checked is was 16 on the dealers list for the ECM recall........Any more questions just ask.....Caper.......

i think yours might be under the recall so bring the number of the bike(serial) and maybe even the part since you got it off to show them that it almost burnt down the bike.

thanks for all the help. Yes my Bike is on the recall list and it was the ECM that fried. Our local shop added me to the list....I am lucky number 19. sigh. I did call Polaris and ask how long should I exspect to wait. I was told all parts should be shipped by July 14th to dealers. So 3 ish weeks without my bike. Guess when my facation starts? I guess I should just be happy no one was hurt or stranded more then I was.
Thanks,
Annette

If you find a spare ECM in the mean time, you can still use and ride the ATV. You just have to disconnect the negative battery cable when it sits unattended. That's what my 500 is doing now, sitting in the garage with the - cable disconnected.
