Does anyone know if there is a manual similar to a chilton's for cars that is for a SP500?...I own a 2000 model and it is my first ATV (so I am a little bit of a amatuer as to the what ifs and the what to do's of my ATV)

I basically figured the thing out by myself. I still find new things to grease though. Try Amazon.com. They have manuals and things like that.

Go to clymer.com they have some manuals on quads, or ask your local dealer for one.

You may find it worthwhile to buy the actual Polaris manual.

You can get a specific manual for the Sportsman 500 from the dealer. Search past posts for sportsman manuals, there is a part # for the manual you can call the dealer with. I paid $30 for mine and it's worth every penny.

There is a parts manual, not like the Chiltons, but parts alone on the Polaris website, that helped me to locate part numbers and some simplified assembly blow-ups. You have to download it, and its Adobe Acrobat PDF reader.

Listen to the guys recommending the Polaris manual. It is most excellent, has plenty of good pictures, is easy to read, yet has all of the information required. It is also quite cheap for a good manual.

This is from an old post ...

Polaris is now producing reasonably priced manuals that are excellent.

I just picked up the Sportsman service manual. It covers the Sportsman 500 from 96 to 2000 and the Sportsman 335 from 99 to 2000.

The manual is excellent. It is Polaris part number 9915686. It was $47 Canadian, about $30 US
