1996 Polaris SCrambler IS getting low range, Need Guidance
Ok, Chain broke and flew up and cracked my gearcase..
poor thing has been sitting in my garage for almost a year now :'(
Ive been trying to find a decently priced trans or RH gearcase the whole time,
and Havent found squat...
FINALLY, someone put a 1996 xplorer trans in great shape on ebay for
a sane price, with a buyitnow, i did not hesitate.
SO the trans is ON THE WAY
Ive already bought ALL the hardware from cheapcycleparts.com
that goes on around or near the trans
(bolts. nuts, shims, brake seals, o rings, etc etc etc)
So, what do I need to know about the swap..
Any caveats?
Heres what I know:
1. Its supposed to bolt right in
2. Hooked up to the stock scrambler shifter, Ill have H - N - R and
NO low, Ill have to mock somthing up..
Ok, how do I mock up the Low linkage?
Is my gearing going to change?
Will I still have to run bigger tires on the front like the scram, or should
I drop down to same size, or does it not matter..
Please, anyone who knows,
just let me know what I should know about this job,
all the things that you had to stop for.

Dan, you will need a shifter from a hi/lo machine and maybe a welder to get it mounted right.You may also need to redo some of the wiring.But with a little patients and trail and error it will work.
You will still have to have the tire ratio for proper 4x4.That has nothing to do with the tranny

I myself don't think its worth even trying to pull clutches with anything other then the proper puller its way to easy to mess up the clutch. Ive bought the cheapo 10-$12. ones once or twice over the years but the problem with that is the first time you get a real hard one(clutch) the end that goes against the crank will mushroom on you--if your only going to use it 1 time fine but your better off spending the 27-35 bucks on a good one and have it for life. When you use one you tighten it as tight as possible-I leave the belt on so I can hold clutch from spinning as I try to tighten it to get clutch to pop off - but when it wont after getting puller screwed in as tight as possible then give puller a good hard square rap with a hammer on the head you'll hear a tink and usually clutch will come right off.
