Default carb problems on 1986 polaris trail boss 250

About three days ago i was riding this macine with good power and throttle response. I put the air box and cleaner back on the machine and now it wont rev up. I took the air cleaner off again and still no power. I can hold the throttle wide open and it just barley moves. It seems to me that its not getting enough air or too much fuel. Ive cleaned the carb a 100 times and still nothing. I did a compressions test and its 150 - 130 psi which should be fine. THe spark is very good as well. What am i missing? It went from screaming to barely getting out of its tracks. I can hold it wide open and it doesnt backfire. I am just confused because it was running great and now nothing. But it idles like a champ. How is that possible?

Check the clutch, maybe the belt came apart and is wrapped around the pulley. also make sure the oil pump is working they quit sometimes , you can get a block off kit for it and pre mix your gas , then you know it has oil. There is nothing in the breather tube to the air box is there?

Ditto on the clutch the secondary buttons will cause that.

i have the cover off the clutch and it doesnt tseem that anything is wrong with the clutch belt. I dont have the air filter or the breather box on the macine at all right now. when it sits and idles there is blue smoke so im pretty sure that its getting oil. What about one of the jets being clogged. WHich jet gives you the air mixture it needs.

is a kit necessary to block off the oil. Cant i just disconnect it and just mix the gas?

I wouldnt unhook the injector just be sure the cable is good and adjusted right.
On the clutch take the belt off, pull the back clutch take it apart and check the ramp buttons on the inside.

Why wouldnt this rev up when its in neutral though? It runs the same in gear as it does out of gear. Does the clutch still play a part in it when its in neutral? It seems to me that once it gets to a certain point about half throttle it wont rev up. Seems like something is holding it back from higher rpms. In or out of gear.

it was the rev limiter switch. Its bad. I ran it tonight and when i was riding it would rev up and shut down and rev up again. I unplugged it and it ran better but at full throttle it was backforing through the carb. Can you just unplug it without anything else limiting the rpms

Pull the black wire will disable the reverse limiter. You may have a piece of dirt in the main jet, clogged air filfer,or bad gas.
