Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Hello MetsFan1231,I had the exact same problem with my 86 250 which I am still trying to remedy. It went from running awesome to no power overnight.I have replaced EVERYTHING!!! and had the carb proffesionaly rebuilt TWICE!!! and still didnt do anything.A gentleman on this site reccomended disconnecting the black wire on the rev limiter,I did this today and now it revs a hellin !!! Im excited to see you had the same problem and it was solved with a new rev limiter,This gives me hope!!! Im looking for a new rev limiter Today.I also had a backfiring issue and on my unit found that it was the coil, not enough spark.after I replaced it the backfiring was gone.

The exhaust is plugged. Remove the drain bolt and it will run better, try to clean it (hit/ shake / rattle off the bike) or just buy a good aftermarket one.

The VIN is always stamped into the frame. Finding it is the hard part because they aren't always in the same place, and not always stamped very well. Try looking right in front of the floorboards and the frame rails that go up from there. The 10th digit of the VIN is the year code. Let us know if you find it or not.
