Default ECM falling off...Twice!

I have to agree with the old Polaris tech, the 425-500 engine is a very reliable strong engine as long as you change the oil when it needs it. I have been working on Polaris ATVs for 17 years and that engine usualy dies from neglect and abuse rather than wear. I saw 17000 on a 96 425 2X4 that came through the shop. I was amazed the speedo still worked. Although I am sure it had a camshaft put in it at one time.

My 600 twin has over 3000 miles on it and I have to think that the twins are almost as durable. The most miles I have seen on a twin is around 6000 to 7000 miles. Time will tell on them.

I am also a firm believer in using a good quality oil like the synthetic Polaris uses.
The old two stroke 250s would last alot longer if synthetic is used. The blue oil they had really sucked for air cooled two strokes. Use a good quality synthetic and it will last longer because it handles the heat better.

Should I stick with Polaris oil or would Amsoil be a suitable substitute?

I think most who are the EXPERIENCED have said already to stick with Polaris brand oil/fluids. You can
search other threads in this FORUM too, and you will find most of the consenus to use Polaris
brands. If in a pinch or non available take some of these other recommedations, if in doubt, call
your local dealer and talk with the techs there on their 2nd choice oil/fluids if forced to use
NON-Polaris, IMO.

Thanks R'

I don't mind spending the money on Polaris oil but the ONLY place you can get it is the dealership...not always the most convenient place to get it especially when they have "bankers hours". I just thought maybe Amsoil would be good because I always hear alot of talk about how great it is...oh well now I have a good excuse to leave work early "gotta go to the dealership"!
