Default Scrambler 500HO water pump failure

Can anyone give me any advice? I was having overheating problems with my Scrambler and I found out my water pump wasn't working. The pump will spin by hand but it doesn't spin with the motor. The parts breakdown shows the water pump is geared to a balance gear that is geared to the crankshaft. I'm not sure what let go. I would like some input before I pull the motor and crack the case open to see what happen. Has anyone had this problem? Open to any advice. Thanks

I ran into this problem right before I quit the dealership. I found that the gear on the balance shaft had spun, and would spin freely. Then of course the water pump/oil pump would not turn. If you can remove the water pump cover and spin the water pump shaft(not impeller, the shaft) then pull the motor and tear it down. Don't run it in case it's the same scenario as what I saw. The oil pump won't turn either!!! Major chance of big problems.

Thanks 94harley, I knew it had to be something with that balance gear but I never been in this motor to know what it has in it. I wonder if this balance gear is a comon problem for the 500. You are also right about the oil pump. I was wondering why the oil light did not come on. I didn't realize the quad didn't come with a oil light. That is a dumb mistake from Polaris. I'm sure I'll have to rebuild the motor now. My friend drove the quad back was when it had this problem, and I ran it when I was trying to figure out the overheating problem. I just think Polaris is stupid for not putting a oil light on the quad. I just hope people with a overheating problem will read this post so they don't have to rebuild there motor too.
