Hi new to the forum I need help! I have a 2004 sportsman 500 ho and the problem I am having is no electrical power. It worked the last time I started it but not now I have no power to gauge cluster lights or what have you. battery is good and if I jump it at the starter the motor will turn over. I have looked at past posts and they suggest ecm how can I test the ecm?, oh yeah the fussible link at the solenoid is good. I'm stumped any help would be appreciated

hmm after further reading....My quads charging system light came on before but seemed fine and after taking a look at my fan it was runing slowly even though key was off and no power anywhere else. These problems all seem associated with ecm fail. Is there a test? should I go out and buy a new ecm?

If power going through thermal link, suspect ignition switch or grounding problem.Unhook speedo harness, check if power to red wire first. Red wire has power all the time reguardless of ignition switch on or off. If has power, check switch for shorts, also check grounds. Make sure battery connections tight also.

Had Polaris supplied tester but when ALL affected ecms were to be replaced, had to return! It was just a little set up that did the same thing as a load tester does on a battery(hook up,power up and see if green light comes on or red(red showed bad) I always thought they were all bad anyway, turns out I was right after all. In your manual there will be some tests, but not able to put a load on it. If still not charging battery or have fan issues, just replace, may supercede to latest ecm. BEFORE ordering, have battery load tested,to eliminate if is a battery problem. Good luck
