WINCH QUESTIONS

My rope also has that rock guard "sleeve" on it. Good idea, but it sure is tough to get it to spool in nice. I have to really give it a good yank to unspool it. In the ad it says "rockguard rolls up along with rope easily." Not mine. Otherwise I'm happy with it.

I have a generic blue synthetic on my winch - but if I had to buy I would go with the AMSTEEL brand name. I have quite a bit of experience with this on a system installed on U.S. Navy ships - haven't had a problem with the AMSTEEL yet.

Ya, I removed my sleeve also (right after I put it on for the first time.) I couldn't get ti to roll up nice at all, and when it did, it would all jam up and you'd have to muscle it back out. Funny everyone recommends a Hawse fairlead, yet the Warn kit comes with a roller?

Hawes fairleads used to be standard on almost all winches. Rollers were an add-on that costed more. I just checked some prices online. Some of the rollers are more than double the price of a hawes for the same winch.

I got another question for yall. Is the winch on my unit a 2500 or 3000. It is the factory one that comes on the deluxe model. I have never put any thought into it, asked or even looked at it to see. It works and works really good all except for the frayed cable that is cutting my hands all up. thanks again for all your replies, it has been a great help
