Outlaw 525
#1
I have a 08 Outlaw 525 with about 6 hrs on it. I installed a K&N air filter and soon noticed that it started to 'die' while cruising in 5th gear. It would stop like it was running out of gas, I would let it sit for a few minutes because it would not start. Then it would start and run for another mile or so and die again, then do the same thing. It didn't do this while riding trails all day, just on long straights in 5th. I took it to the dealer and they said it probably need rejetting. Is this possible by just installing a K&N filter.

Yeah you might be running lean with the new filter....... these new machines, especially since 2006 are tuned to run so lean from the factory that any more air into the system will be too much for the current jetting....... to be honest I'd go back to the foam filter....... that engine makes so much power that you are not going to notice anything with just an air filter anyway...... not to mention that K&N is known to pass silt into the box and you DO NOT want to damage that engine.... those suckers are not cheap to fix....
Is that engine not making enough power for you? Or did you just put the k&N on thinking it was "better" ......?

Pretty much everyone I know with 525's has ordered the JD jet kit from jdjetting.com. It's really easy to do, and there are tons of threads on predatorowners.com with peoples different settings and how its working. I've got an EHS air box lid, K & N filter and rejetted it and it has a lot more power now, and it helped get rid of a slight bog mine had when punching the throttle from low rpms.

Thanks for tho info guys. I put the K&N on because I have it on everything I own cars, bikes, atv's, it's just the first thing I add. This is the first time this happened to me. I heard it ran lean from Polaris 'cause of CA. emmission's, but had no idea this lean. I'LL pick it up from th dealers tomorrow and see.
-- ss97 will the silt still pass through with an Outerwear on it. I never had any come through on anything I own. Thanks again
