Default CV Boot problems...please help!

I have been reading multiple posts/discussions in an effort to find out information about removing the CV joint from my front drive shaft, but am struggling. I have a 96 sportsman and the CV joint slides up and down but won't come off. I have read that there is a clip holding it, but can't see it/access it. Can anyone tell me how to remove the CV joint to replace the boot? I am reluctant to pound on it for fear that I will break it. Thanks for all your help and information.

pull real hard+ fast, you won't break it,the trick is sudden like you are deliberately wanting to tear it off..go all the way in then pull hard+fast, stay away from obsticles so you don't get hurt, lube it if you want but not needed.
