xpress running really loud
#1
I hope there is still someone around that remebers the old Polaris Xpress 300.
I searched for about an hour here but can't seem to find a solution to this problem.
I have a 1996 Polaris Xpress 300 that I bought a couple of years ago.
Except for the motor, the rest was pretty worn out and I've done quite a bit of work on it.
To the point, it runs really loud. I can't tell if something is missing from the exhaust system of if the muffler is blow out. The exhaust pipe connects to the manifold and muffler with a ball-and-socket type joint that has no gaskets, just metal to metal. And it's held together with springs.
Should I try some type of silicone or gasket material in the joints?
Below is a schematic from BikeBandit that show no gaskets either.
Any advice is apprecitaed, thanks, Scott

YES JUST metal to metal, can wear and leak and make noise! Can silicone, but doesnt last, the best solution I've found that works is Malcolm Smiths pipe sealant. Pull small strip and stretch around ball end of exhaust and squish pipe together, will expand and fill gaps as pipe gets warm, also make sure springs good and tight!
