Default '96 425 Magnum questions

I have a 96 425 magnum 4x4. It makes a lot of noise in the left side (I am guessing it is the clutch area. I have put a new larger cover on it but it still has a whine that is as loud as the motor. Does it need an adjustment in the clutch???? Any ideas???

Also, this thing lacks power going up hills. I am going to get into the carb and make sure it is getting full throttle. anyone have issues like these?

Check drive clutch for button wear, rear clutch for ramp button wear. Also if belt deflection between both clutches over 1 1/2" could be time for new one. Also check seal behind front clutch, could be rubbing clutch. These are my best guesses on noise. Plus older machines clutch backing plate could be warped, they lacked the support bracket at bottom of plate to help support. Good luck

Thanks so much.... a couple of questions though. how do I identify the "buttons" you are talking about? Any good manual, pictures, etc... out there that I can use to reference. I might replace the belt for the heck of it...is that hard?

it's easy to replace the belt, and the buttons on the primary clutch are what helps the clutch slide in and out, they are a wear item, the secondary ramp buttons are inside the secondary clutch, you have to pull the snap ring off they'll have a allen head or torx head screw holding them on. make sure u wind the secondary spring back the way it was, the polaris manuals are prolly the best ones to buy to.

In your experience, when those need to be replaced does it make a lot of noise?

If front drive clutch buttons worn and have slack,CAN sound like a diesel truck! If rear clutch ramp buttons bad or melted,CAN make a grinding or squealing noise!
