My New ATV Was Stolen

My garmin rino gps has a dog collar feature that allows me to track anywhere the collar is at any given time. Maybe this feature could be used to track a quad....I dunno</end quote>

That's something my Garmin GPS 12 doesn't have but I need it. I can buy another GPS cheaper than a new quad. This and the trail cam seem to be my best options. I'd really like to stop the thieves but if I can't, I can just hunt them down instead. I wanted to test out the mods I did on one of my rifles anyway. The only thing jumbofrank is guilty of is living in a high crime area. Stopping thieves in a bad neighborhood is next to impossible. You are pissing into the wind to even try. Best thing he can do is move out........IMO
He is not guilty of his quad being stolen.....maybe a little to hesitant to move soon enough......but not his fault in the least!

Well, that isn't very constructive. Maybe you could post something helpful in the future. Like how to not get a locked up ATV stolen when you only have it home a few days. Maybe together we all help each other with advice about how to protect our investments.

It's not actually a high crime area of the city. Outside of my yard it's pretty good. Someone like my next-door neighbor has singled me out to be a victim while ignoring everyone else for miles around. Several other people have ATVs and things outside that aren't being stolen even when they aren't locked up. Their are millionaires living in mansions a mile away who've hired off-duty police officers as private security to patrol their area. But I can hardly get on-duty police over here when I call. Since I can't afford my own security patrol I'm screwed. As long as the police don't do anything, and a bunch of people blame the victims, there will always be crimes that people know they can get away with.
I did what I thought was reasonable to secure my ATV and will move since that didn't work. The roofer started this week and I'm getting the house ready for sale. I was already in the process of getting estimates before this ATV or the last one were stolen. I can't help it if one builder lost my phone number 3 times before finally showing up. I waited until I got his estimate before I got another, and then had to wait for this guy to have room in his schedule. God only knows how long it will take to get everything fixed inside the house, but I will need something to plow snow with before I move out. And since 10% off the people around here are unemployed, and tens of thousands have already left the city, it may take a few years to sell my house unless I take half of what it's worth.

The claims investigator drove an hour from Lansing to come over today so he could see in person what's going on here. He did it so my claim doesn't have to be turned over to the special investigation unit or whatever it's called. He used to live close by and knows the neighborhood too. It's nice and quiet and nothing's going on at all. He said I didn't do anything wrong, it's not my fault my ATV was stolen, and even if I don't chain it it up there's no problem covering my loss. A chain and heavy-duty padlock barely slows anyone down. He doesn't think my insurance will get cancelled either, but I bet it goes up. I have to wait a couple of weeks to see if I get my quad back or get a new one. I told him I don't even need it until I start plowing snow since none of my friends are likely to ride after this weekend. I got half of the paperwork done already and gave him my title and reciepts. Since my dealer gave me such an awesome once-in-a-lifetime deal, and I paid less than dealer cost, if my quad's not recovered I might actually get back everything I paid for it, instead of losing a grand or more. And I may actually make money on it! But I'd rather just have it back than make money on it. He won't penalize me for getting a great deal and only pay me what I paid for it. I'll get what it's actually worth.
He said that there IS a Lo-Jack made for motorcycles and I can get one installed in my ATV. I just have to look up where the nearest dealer is. When I get the Lo-Jack on it my insurance will go down, maybe 20%, so it will pay for itself before long. I may actually be able to put an end to the thefts. This is the best news I've ever got from an insurance company. I didn't think there was anyplace to hide a Lo-Jack on an ATV but he says they aren't that big. It doesn't have a wire going to the battery that can be cut either. The exposed battery and wiring is what kept me from getting an alarm for the last two years. Progressive doesn't suck as bad as I thought, but we still have different opinions about what is or is not cosmetic damage. Sorry about the length of this post but I'm excited and wanted to share the good news and let everyone know they can Lo-Jack quads.

Have you ever heard the saying "If you can't say something nice don't say anything"? Apparently not. When you own this website then you can tell people what to post, in the mean time I think you should keep your comments to yourself. But I guess it is a free county. IMO If you don't like what he posts don't read it.

HO, for some reason that just made me lol. No one should have a vehicle stolen out of their yard or driveway. I'm just trying to get advice from you guys to prevent it, and to help others learn from what happened to me. I think that is constructive.
