its not a bad idea to just leave out the grill, for extra cooling purposes. with the grill and winch in place you lose about 35% of the available airflow for the radiator, remember about half of your radiator is already covered with the brushguard, this is a poor design from the factory, you should consider motor longevity before beauty.

I wanted to do the same thing to my Sportsman, but the Polaris winch I got came with no template. I looked on the back of thae part you take off to install the winch and the template was already there on the back. So I took my RotoZip to it. I must say that am pretty pleased with myself. I will post pictures.

My '08 had a solid grill where the winch is now. I had to cut it out to make room. That is to say, there wasn't any air going through there to begin with. How did you come up with 35%? It seems to me it was built from the factory that way and it cools fine.</end quote></div>
+1. It's covers part of a hole where there wasn't even a hole to start with. How can that even be 1% worse than no hole?

never said it was GOOD from the factory. In my experience it is better to have as much airflow as possible. factory cover can't allow that much airflow through the radiator when it is half covered to begin with. just a bad design from factory.
I see radiators plugged with mud all the time, can't figure out why they would design it like that. ENGINEERS don't care, just sell it. pencil pusher in office at polaris also doesn't know any better.

If it's covered there's no airflow and if it's exposed it gets full of mud, so on the XP they put it up where it should have already been.
I agree that engineers don't care. There have been jobs set up in the shop that were impossible for a human to run, and no room to get a robot in either, thanks to the wonderfull engineers. I think all engineers should have to work on whatever type of thing they design, like an apprenticeship before they can engineer anything. The engineers in the shop should work on the line for a year and ATV engineers should work in a dealer's garage, etc. Once they know what it's like to get their hands dirty they can make things that don't suck. And I think they should only have ATV riders as ATV engineers. We know what we want and how we want it. Pencil pushers sitting in an office don't.

sorry to hear about your quad. if you think its your neighbor and want to get even, buy some emulsion gel at hardware store, fill ballons with gel and throw them on his roof, gel will eat shingles right off of his roof. Sorry, I could be a mean mf'er, got more ideas if interested.
