Default 325 Trail Boss auto trans question

I bought my wife a 2002 325 Trail Boss with auto trans. My question is, should she hear or feel it shift through gears? We were riding the sand dunes on the Oregon coast, and an older fella took it for a ride, and said that a person should feel it shift, or hear it. He said it reminded him of an old Buick Dynflow auto trans, where you couldn't tell when it shifted. He also said that her bike was very squirrley going up the dunes. Is this just the way this tranny is supposed to work?

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

It's contiuously variable. Instead of 4 or 5 gears it's like 100s or 1,000s of them so close you can't feel it change.
