99 Xplorer front hub fluid change?
#1
Just drained and refilled the front hubs on my 99 Xplorer. I have 2 questions: When you turn the wheel to the 4 o'clock position, do you just verify that fluid drains out at that position or do you leave it at that position until fluid stops coming out?
Second, when putting the allen screws back in do you put a thread tape or liquid sealer on there or is this required to keep the fluid from leaking?
Thanks

MY routine is to drain, turn up, fill COMPLETELY till full (so all bearings get fluid) turn to 4 o'clock position until fluid STOPS or just barely drips. I havent had the need for teflon tape or sealant for 20 years!

what i do is tip it back up when it starts slowing down.that way i have alittle extra, not enough to blow the seals.i don't use anything on threads have not seen any leak. but you can use some teflon paste.

Thanks for the answer but now I have a couple more questions. I don't know how often the previous owner changed the fluid in the hubs. Would it be a good idea to change the fluid out again, sort of flushing them out?
Second, I pulled my wheels off the first time I did the fluid change as it looked like it would make adding and draning the fluid easier and less messy. In your experience, is this necessary?

If you have a RATIO RITE cup,not necessary to remove wheels, just drain into cup and refill,NO mess. IF in doubt about what previous owner did,Do it again if necessary for your own piece of mind! Good luck
