Default battery light flashing

I have a 2004 polaris sportsman 600 and I have noticed that the battery light started flashing the last time I used it. It seemed to do this only when an electric load was put on it such as the lights or electric cooling fan. Is this an indication that my battery needs to be replaced or do I have a charging problem??
