Default scrambler acting up / Cutting out

Hey all,
So i put the new rope and handle in the recoil, and
a freshly oiled uni filter in,

everything seemed to be sealed up tight (airbox boots carb boot included)

I went out for a ride last night with my buddy, he took my 300ex.

Scrambler was running fine the whole time, noticed the ringy buzzy sound that
i never heard before toward the end of the trip, or at least never payed attention to.
Could be the recoil vibrating, we did have to use an impact driver to get the screw out of the recoil.

Anyway,

After about an hour and a half of riding, i was comming back up this steep hill,
it felt like she was hesitating a little bit, but she went right up.

We hit a main road for about 1 mile to go home,

I let my buddy on my 300ex get a head start, cause I wanted to run him down and pass em.

So , I slam the gas, the scrambler takes off good, and im gaining on him, but than
it starts to round out, im right on his *** but I cant pass my 300! than
it starts sputtering and acting like its out of gas, which is not the gas!

it would rev... die, than kick back in, When i backed off the gas a bit it would run normally.

What do you think it is?

Dirty carb?

Carb boots loose?

Fouled Plug (plugs been in there a few years!)

Any guesses?

Take the silencer off and clean it out.Theres probably carbon and exhaust crap gummed up in the silencer. It might also be the carb.

does this happen?

I couldnt have been going more than 60, and I know ive had this bike to damn near 70 before

Change the plug and check and clean the carb though rebuild kits for the 96 are hard to find I had to use a rebuild kit for a 97 on mine and the needle was different! If nothing changes its that exhaust.

I think the belt is pretty new.... but would a belt or clutch problems cause it to flake out at high speed?

Im going to check and replace the spark plug tonight,
and check my carb boots.. i glanced at them yestarday and they looked fine, took her out out and shes choking at high speed with high throttle engagement

cuts out and revs back

Nah couldnt be too much oil, I just give it a light coating and massage it in, brand new uni, none squeezes out and it was let to dry

and its a oil injected 2 stroke, i dont think a little oil in the carb would hurt
