Default clunking noise Sportsman 800

Bought a new 2008 Sportsman 800 and it is making a clunking noise (from the transmission?). Took it back to the dealer and they said this is a normal sound. Does anyone else have this sound? It happens under steady throttle.

Thanks for the info. You were WAY more helful than the dealership. I just bought the bike on Thursday and it took Woods Fun Center in Austin Texas 2 days to tell me they think it is normal and charged me $75. . Thanks again for your help.

75.00 ..........well that gets a S^$% sandwich and an email for that dealer.... Try to find the Polaris rep for the area and drop him a line. I think I would have told him to keep it

Yea it is normal as I exp. it too. I haven't noticed it to be that

Yep!! COMPLETELY NORMAL. Welcome to the world of the Polaris twins!! When I brought my '07 700 EFI home, I freaked out, took it back to the dealer, and told they something was drastically wrong. They smirked a little, told me they should have warned me, and pulled another '07 700 EFI AND an '07 800 EFI off the showroom floor, and told me to drive them both. I did, and then I took my Sportsman 700 back home completely satisfied that the sound was normal. BOTH new machines made the IDENTICAL clunking noise. So rest at ease my friend.,

yes and no that its normal. yes as there is alot of back lash that makes alot of noise(on most 06' to 08' 800's) that you hear when taking off and letting off the throttle. now for the NO. i found (after reading a post) that when i changed by transmission oil that the oil plug was rubbing onthe internal tranny chain and was making noise as well. here is a picture of the oil plug and you see where it wore into it.
