Default Electroni Shifter on Honda Recon

I have been warned about the electronic shifter on the left handlebar on the Honda Recons. Is this true?

I think for my usage a 4x2 2002 Honda Recon or other similar atv with a manual foot shifter will be what I need. I can get a vehicle like this for about $1000 or less.

Any thoughts? Is the price right?

Just an OPT,but yes Honda did have problems with water and dirt getting in the elec shifter on early models! IF going for an early Honda stick with the manual shift! Good luck P.S might want to ask this same question in the Honda forum!
